Help, FAQ & Privacy
Using the Coven
Do I have to trade a book to receive one?
No. All books are free gifts, with no exchange required.
Can I edit a book after adding it?
Yes! You can edit books you have added to your collection, including their details, without deleting the listing and starting over.
What if I cannot find my book in the search?
You can enter a book's details manually. The book search uses Open Library, which does not have every edition or description.
How do I contact another member?
Visit their profile to send Witch Mail. You can also add members to My Coven to keep track of people you would like to stay in touch with.
How do I follow a discussion?
You automatically follow any discussion you start, on any message board. You can also select Follow thread on someone else's discussion. When someone replies, you will see new activity when you visit the site. You can unfollow a thread whenever you like.
Will I get notifications when someone messages me or requests a book?
The Coven does not send email, text, or push notifications for messages or book requests. You can see updates when you visit the website, including new activity in discussions you are following. Check back whenever you like, and give your fellow witches time to respond. Even magic has office hours.
Can I bring someone to a gathering?
Yes. Include everyone, including yourself, in the RSVP count.
Community & Conduct
Who can join?
Adults aged 18 and older. Every member deserves to feel welcome and safe here.
The Coven Code of Conduct
Be kind, respect boundaries, and remember there is a real person behind every familiar. Racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, sexism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and other hateful or discriminatory behavior have no place in the Coven. Neither do bullying, harassment, threats, sexual harassment, unwanted advances, doxxing, or repeatedly contacting someone after they have asked you to stop.
Respect other members' identities and pronouns. Disagreements about books are welcome; personal attacks are not. Keep exchanges free, be truthful about book condition, honor agreed handoffs, and treat other people's time and privacy with care. Do not post anyone's private information without permission.
What happens if someone breaks the rules?
Members can report concerns privately to the administrators. Depending on the seriousness of the behavior and any previous incidents, administrators may send a warning, remove content, temporarily limit participation, or suspend an account. Serious behavior may warrant immediate action without a prior warning; not every situation calls for the same response. The aim is to protect the community and respond fairly, not to hand out punishments for their own sake.
If an administrator takes action, the member will receive an in-app notice explaining the reason. Members can contact the Admin Cottage to ask questions or appeal. Reports are reviewed privately; please do not use public threads to pursue disputes.
How do I report a problem or ask about privacy?
Open a member profile to report them, or message the administrators privately through the shared Admin Cottage inbox.
Privacy & Your Account
What information does the Coven keep?
Your email for sign-in, chosen username, familiar, general area, listings, messages, posts, RSVPs and book exchange history. Your email is not displayed publicly. Avoid sharing private addresses or phone numbers in public posts.
Who can read my information?
Members can read public listings and discussions. Witch Mail is intended for its participants. Your Coven contact list is private. The administrator reviews reports. The site uses Supabase, Cloudflare, Resend for account emails, and Open Library for book information and covers. We do not sell personal data.
What happens when I delete my account?
Use Delete my account in My Profile to permanently remove your login and personal profile automatically. Your past public discussions, Witch Mail visible to remaining participants, and completed book exchange history remain credited to Deleted Member. You cannot undo deletion. Administrators must transfer their role first. Text you previously wrote may still contain identifying details; you can ask the administrator to review sensitive material.
